Our Backstory

Why We Started this Website

As lifelong residents of various states outside of the Southern US, we moved to South Carolina in 2018 with little knowledge of what we were getting ourselves into.

To put it simply, we've been enamored by the beautiful places, parks, beaches, lakes, mountains, and historic places in the South.

Samara is a California native and Kyle hails from Wisconsin. Both very different in terms of geography and culture. As we've set out to learn about our new home, we've enjoyed the excitement found in seeing things for the first time. This prompted the idea of sharing these things with you.

Most content on this website is researched, written, and photographed by Samara, whose background is in digital marketing. The website design is handled by Kyle who has been a web designer for over 20 years now. We compliment one another's skillset well.

As new residents of the South, we want to share our adventures with you and invite you to get out and Discover the South for yourself!

Timeline of Events that Led to the Creation of this Website

  • 2008

Kyle & Samara are married and live in Southern California

  • 2015

Realizing that as much as we loved California it was becoming too difficult to raise kids in the state. Our kids were getting older and we were looking for more affordable opportunities for them to attend school and eventually move out.

  • 2017

A trip was made to a friend's lake house in South Carolina and we fell in love with the area. Some thorough research and family discussions led us to plan to relocate within the state.

  • 2018

After selling almost everything we owned, we packed what remained and relocated to South Carolina and purchased a home.

  • 2020

Covid happened and lockdowns made it difficult to explore our new home state, so time was spent daydreaming about places we'd like to see.

  • Today

Post lockdowns, we've been checking off places we'd love to see, yet the list grows longer all the time. There is so much we'd love to do and share with you!

  • The Future

We hope to grow a vast library of locations throughout The South to share with you and provide well-researched details on places you might like to get out and see for yourself.
